Here’s where the De-Interlacing Filter in Final Cut Pro comes in handy. Interlacing causes the still frame to “flicker” or a jittering to the image, also caused by poor video quality, or lack of a steady hand while filming. I essentially do the same thing by only cropping the dancer and her movements.Īpply De-Interlace Effect : Usually you don’t notice interlacing during video playback until the motion is paused, or you want to use a particular frame to freeze. Most editors would use a garbage matte to get rid of this. Original Video: Notice the lights and other equipment. This is fine for all I want is her movement, for I have a plan to achieve an even closer edit in the end. Therefore, at times the cropped square is going to move. Because this is a dancing video, she is not going to stay in one spot. Basically, it is distracting to see only a small green screen with a lot of movement. Once I cropped out the unnecessary it was hard to see the video errors of the dance movements. After I edit the video enough that I only have minor tweaks, I cropped out what was not needed in the footage. Remember in the previous blog Green Screening Test a Success: I noted the Settings used to obtain good quality for Domonique’s dance performance. More to come for FLV conversion and KeyLighting usage for Green Screen.
For my thesis, FLV is needed to control the video by Actionscript later, therefore it makes more sense to remove the green screen in After Effects and adjust any other visual settings in After Effects to obtain great quality. Ultimately, I would need to use After Effects in order to save the final video as an FLV.
I know that I can remove the Green Screen in Final Cut Pro, however I found that I have more control of the green screen removal in After Effects. I can only edit with the Green Screen visible in Final Cut Pro to get a clean edit. I am not sure which one yet, so I would need to work this out after I do the final edit in Final Cut Pro. The reason I say this is that in some parts of the video, the dancer’s body parts disappear or get lost only because the Screen Gain may be a little to high or low. more editing and that in After Effects I may need to animate the Screen Gain Settings. I know that my video needs some tighting up ie. My only concern is to make sure the quality transfers appropriately for web use. However, we all have to start somewhere and I am happy with the results. I am sure extremely experience video editors have a faster way of doing this and may find the technique I chose a little mundane. Tonight, I will explain the process that I took to get the current results.
Through this starter footage, I learned some great things about Final Cut Pro, After Effects and gained some knowledge on De-Interlacing, Exposure, Rendering, BitRate for Video, Alpha Channels, and much much more.

This footage will be used in the thesis as well, but I needed to tackle all the trial and errors that I may go through so that the next video editing components are a lot easier. For the past few nights, I have been using Domonique’s Performance as the workflow trial and error footage. I ran into some errors that I will need to research and some solutions.
